It's been a while, but I'm still here. I'm feeling a little rusty so bare with me...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/8658118629/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Foundation pieced star in color order! by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Foundation pieced star in color order!" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8122/8658118629_5799e93e78_z.jpg" width="388" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I'm entering a mini quilt I recently made into <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2013/05/17/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2013/" target="_blank">Amy's Bloggers Quilt Festival</a>! This will be my first ever entry into any type of contest so I'm a bit nervous, but overall I'm pretty excited!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;">After coming across </span><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/curly_boy/sets/72157632153212318/with/8174718335/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;">this pillow</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"> on Pinterest and <a href="http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2013/03/jumbo-paper-pieced-star-tutorial-making.html" target="_blank">this tutorial</a> by Kati, I had been itching to make a foundation pieced star. So one day (when I actually felt like sewing) I decided to to draw up a pattern and get busy. I had never foundation paper pieced before so it was a little slow going at first, but I quickly got the hang of it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/8642891289/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="My first ever foundation piecing. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Making sure I had the proper seam allowance was probably the hardest part for me. As you can see in the pictures above they are a little short in spots, but I made it work. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;">I chose to make it out of solid Kona Cottons in a ROYGBIV orientation based purely on the fact that I had a bunch of scraps left over from my not-so-scrappy <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/8509799067/" target="_blank">trip around the world quilt</a>. (Hopefully I will get around to blogging about it soon.) From the very beginning I knew I wanted to use this black and white stripe for the binding to add contrast. I love how it turned out!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Colorado was great, It was nice seeing family! The trip there and back was a long 19 hours each way, but Riley did very well and slept more than I thought he would so that helped. The weather was nice, hot, but bearable. We had tons of fun just hanging out, swimming and doing a little shopping. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">The last whole day we were there we went out to a local lake for some swimming, a picnic lunch and some fun on my brother's boat. It was a blast!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7753114334/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Colorado 2012 by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Colorado 2012" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7278/7753114334_7f02151d68.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">The lake was surrounded by mountains most of the way around it and it was just gorgeous!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Riley had a ton of fun playing with his aunts, uncles and cousins.</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">B is absolutely adorable! I couldn't get enough of her and it was really hard leaving knowing it would be at least five months before I would get to see her again. Here she is laying on the Ruby Bird Baby Quilt I made for her. Her mom and dad loved it so I know it will be used which is all I ask for!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here she is making her "cheerio face" as her daddy calls it. She does it all of the time and it is so cute!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">This photo is more of the blanket she is on than actually of her, she was not very happy at the time (and excuse the poor photo.) Back in March I made this self binding baby blanket, there are tons of tutorials out there, and matching burp cloths, bibs and wash cloths. I had planned on sending them out for the baby shower, but then they didn't have one so I took them out along with the quilt and they were in full use by the time we left. When we got out there I realized I didn't have any pics of them so this is all you get.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">While we were out there I took some time to do my niece's senior pictures. I just wanted to share one with you all. I can not believe she is a senior in high school! I was in fifth grade when she was born and I remember it like it was yesterday... Anyway, isn't she beautiful? I realise I'm a bit biased, but come on.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Overall the trip was great and I miss them all so much already! We may be going back out for Christmas or they may be coming here, we're not sure yet. Either way I can't wait!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Have a great day!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I was browsing through </span><a href="http://pinterest.com/tinktink35/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">my Pinterest boards</span></a><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;"> the other day and came across this cute </span><a href="http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/blog/2012/05/02/project-design-team-wednesdayretro-travel-bag/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Retro Travel Bag</span></a><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">, perfect for my upcoming trip. I was suddenly inspired to sew! It was nice feeling that way again...I think maybe the idea of having something to blog about was also giving me a little push.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7483396836/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Retro Travel Bag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Retro Travel Bag" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8018/7483396836_1ae5d927e5.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">I left off the piping since I didn't have any and
added lots of pockets, including one on the outside. I also made my own handles
and made them long enough to carry the bag on my shoulder.</span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 18pt;"><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7487860854/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Retro Travel Bag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Retro Travel Bag" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7106/7487860854_2837089974.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I
didn't have the right sized zipper so I had to refigure the sizing of the side
pieces and had to do quite a bit of readjusting to make it fit to the front and
back pieces, but made it work in the end. It wasn't the right type of zipper
either. The tutorial called for a parka zipper that completely came apart which
was not what I had. So I attached the zipper in the same manner as I would on a
zip pouch and the sewed on a piece of fabric that was the total width of the
zipper and the fabric on each side of it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Every
piece of fabric except the two large lining pieces has heavy interfacing
attached. The outer front and back as well as the large interior pieces and the
bottom section all have fusible fleece. This baby is nice and sturdy! I also
quilted the outer front, back and bottom pieces to keep everything together.</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">When
it came to attaching the front and back to the side piece I threw the tutorial
out the window. Good idea? Maybe, maybe not. To be honest there isn't a lot of
visual detail when it comes to attaching the lining so I was a little confused.
So instead of trying to figure it out I just came up with my own way.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7487864142/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Retro Travel Bag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Retro Travel Bag" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7264/7487864142_6e8372ec80.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">For the front and back I basted the outer and inner pieces together so they wouldn't shift while I was sewing. The zipper section and the bottom section were all assembled with the wrong sides of the inner and outer pieces sewn together. With the outer sides together I pinned the top/bottom/sides ring to the front panel. This took a lot of <span style="font-size: 18pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;">patients</span> and because of the thickness I ended up with quite a few bent pins. Pinning the on the back panel was even more frustrating, but I got it done.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 18pt;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7487862298/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Retro Travel Bag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Retro Travel Bag" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7121/7487862298_6982cf1169.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">My way of assembly left exposed raw edges and I had every intention to cover them with bias tape, but after realizing the thickness and struggling a bit to get it through my maching I decided to skip it. So I went back and zigzag stitched over the edges to stop any fraying that would occur, if I had a serger I would have used that. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7483400984/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Retro Travel Bag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Retro Travel Bag" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8002/7483400984_eac24c8766.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I added a bunch of pockets on the inside because I love pockets; they help keep me a little more organized. On the front side I added some simple pockets using the same method I used for my </span><a href="http://punkinhandmades.blogspot.com/2011/08/pleated-clutch-tutorial.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pleated Clutch</span></a><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">. I put in a large pocket that runs almost the length of the bag and centered a smaller one </span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">right on top of it. Then I stitched right up the center to divide them.</span> </span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">On the back side I added a zip pocket. This was SO easy! I thought this was a much more difficult process, but it's not. I followed </span><a href="http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2007/02/zippered_inner_.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">this tutorial</span></a><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">And there you have it! My new Retro Travel Bag ready for its first trip. I can't wait to pack this baby full. I think it will be perfect for my hand stitching projects, MP3 player, snacks and small toys for Riley on the long trip! Big enough to hold it all yet slim enough to fit in between the seats and not take up much room. I love making bags and I'm sure this will be one that gets plenty of use!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">First of all, if you are reading this I just want to say "Thank you!" for not giving up on me.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Things have changed so much since I started this blog a year ago. I'm not terribly comfortable going into all the details, but I will say we are currently living with my parents due to recent struggles. My sewing space is a little sewing cabinate tucked in a corner. I guess I should be happy I have any space at all. It's just harder when I can't just go sit down and start sewing or just walk over my cutting table to cut something. I don't know how you kitchen table sewers do it!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">But anyway, I have been doing<em> some</em> sewing and quite a bit of handstitching. I'm taking <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/05/handstitched-registration-opens-today.html" target="_blank">Handstitching Class</a> and I'm plugging away at my Ruby Bird Baby Quilt. I really need to get this quilt finished since this little cutie...</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">...was born just a few days ago and we leave for Colorado in less then 3 weeks! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">This quilt is for her, B, and I can't wait to finish it and get to meet my little brother's first baby! I didn't expect to be so emotional about this, but I have been. This is the first baby in the family that I haven't been able to meet with in hours of their birth and it has been really hard. She will be a whole 3 1/2 weeks old be for I get to hold her! It's killing me!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I'm currently working on the July block and should be finished tonight or tomorrow. When I focus on working on them I can knock them out pretty quick. Now that B is here I'm really feeling the pressure to get this quilt finished up which equals a lot of hand stitching!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Probably not the best time to take a handstitching class then, right? Well I did anyway! I'm gonna have quite a bit of catching up to do and I can't wait to do it! I'm taking <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/05/handstitched-registration-opens-today.html" target="_blank">Rachel's Handstitched Class</a> and I can't wait to finish the quilt that goes along with it. It includes reverse applique, embroidery, english paper piecing, applique and hand quilting. Now obviously I've done a couple of these, but learning the ones I haven't and having step by step instructions to make the Modern Medalion Quilt are so worth it!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7366335722/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Dogwood Blossom by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Dogwood Blossom" height="400" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5441/7366335722_de8c4d2d6f.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">So far I've done the center medalion which was done with reverse applique.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">And I have it prepped to start the embroidery. I'm having a hard time putting this aside. I wanted to start on it right away and was plannin to, but I really need to get B's quilt done so this will have to wait. The perk is that I will have plenty to keep me busy on the 17 hour trip out to Colorado and then another 17 hours home! Just need to make sure I take some Dramamine...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I'm loving my choice to use Aunt Edna by Denyse Schmidt. I've been picking up fat quarters and yardage evrey chance I get. I LOVE this line and plan on using it for all of my Handstitched Class projects.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">So there ya have it. That's most of what I have been working on lately. I have been keeping my Flickr up to date and post quite a bit on Instagram (christink35) so add me to your contacts or follow me if you would like.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #e69138; font-size: x-large;">Its my 1st Bloggerversary!</span> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I can't believe it's been a year since I decided to dive into the blogging community. I love being able to share what I have been working on with you and I LOVE the feed back. I just want to say thank you for reading my ramblings and leaving such wonderful comments, they make my day!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">So as a small thank you I am giving you a tutorial. I love making these little crayon rolls. They are great for sticking in your purse or the diaper bag and pulling out whenever the kids need a little distraction: in the car, a waiting room, a restaurant, etc. They also make wonderful gifts or party favors!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196935700/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="399" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8008/7196935700_55fa9e14cf.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">What you will need:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">1 outer piece - 12.5 x 5 inches</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">1 inner piece - 12.5 x 5 inches</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">1 pocket piece - 12.5 x 5.5 inches</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">1 piece of batting - 12.5 x 5 inches</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">1 hair tie</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">matching thread</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196920832/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7238/7196920832_ace6d47eb5.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Start by folding the pocket piece (shown in the stripe fabric) long ways like a hot dog bun and press.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196922524/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7196922524_5b4c35c758.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Using a water soluble pencil mark the center of the long edge of the pocket piece on both top (the folded edge) and bottom (where the raw edges meet). Then place a mark every inch from the center to the edge on each side of the center mark. Only make five marks on each side for a total of eleven marks. This will leave you with 1 1/4 inches from the last mark to the edge. Do this along the top and bottom edge.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196923968/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7103/7196923968_1c74272e54.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Once you have all marks made you are going to pin the pocket piece to the lining piece. Line up the raw edges of the pocket piece with the bottom edge of the lining piece and pin well so it doesn't shift.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196925358/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="399" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5311/7196925358_7709c06189.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Starting along the bottom, sew from the bottom edge mark up to the matching top edge mark back stitching a bit at the top making sure to go to the edge, but not over. This forms the little pockets for the crayons. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196928562/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7196928562_9cb37c0328.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Continue until all of the marks have been connected, 11 total. It should look like this (the above photo). Now the lining is finished and you can set it aside.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196929866/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="399" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5151/7196929866_2ef8c97f27.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Take your outer piece and place the batting on the wrong side lining up the edges. Attach the hair tie to one of the shorter edges (I like to place mine on the right edge when I am looking at it) leaving the majority, about 2/3 to 3/4, of the hair tie on the fabric with the shorter portion hanging off the edge. Using an 1/8 inch allowance sew the hair tie on back stitching 3 or 4 times making sure it is nice and secure.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196931080/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8148/7196931080_dc1cfb7b25.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now place you inner and outer sections right sides together.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7196932976/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Crayon Roll Tutorial by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Crayon Roll Tutorial" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7214/7196932976_f6c899bd22.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pin the layers together making sure nothing will shift.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Staring along the bottom sew around the edges leaving a small opening for turning. Be sure to back stitch at the beginning and end. Clip the corners and turn, making sure to push out the corners.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I managed to get four baby quilts done for my craft show a couple weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to sharing them with you all. Two boy-ish and two girl-ish. They were quick and easy, just what I needed to get them done for the show!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7159941804/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Pooches and Pickups Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Pooches and Pickups Baby Quilt" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7159941804_cfb7c7e1c3.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">For this one I used Kona cottons and these cute truck prints form Pooches and Pickups. I just did some simple straight line quilting and bound it in Kona cotton.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7159973972/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Pooches and Pickups Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Pooches and Pickups Baby Quilt" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7076/7159973972_f474f56fa9.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7159994812/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Hello Luscious Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Hello Luscious Baby Quilt" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7223/7159994812_b07e8a766a.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">This one is made with Kona cotton in white and a Hello Luscious charm pack with Hello Luscious yardage for the back. This one is also straight line quilted and bound with Kona Cotton. I made this one from start to finish the day before the show!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">This was the first one I pieced. It's made with more Kona Cotton (pretty much the only solid I work with) and selected prints from Get Together. I chose to stipple this one and I was pretty happy with how the quilting turned out.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7159923508/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Get Together Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Get Together Baby Quilt" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8165/7159923508_4a5d098c98.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/7160024514/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Vintage Modern Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Vintage Modern Baby Quilt" height="400" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5457/7160024514_80c032999a.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Then there's this little pretty thing! I love this quilt. It is probably just the colors, but I want a throw sized one for myself. I used Kona Cotton in Ash, a Vintage Modern charm pack and Sherbet Dot from Ruby for the back. For the quilting I gave wavy lines a try and love the look. I bound it with a dot fabric from my stash. I just love the whole thing!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">And then there is this little guy, he was my shadow while I was photographing these quilts. Isn't he just soooo cute?! This is Drummer, my little long haired chihuahua weighing in at six whole pounds. He is my constant shadow. Whether I'm sitting at my sewing desk or sitting on the couch, cooking dinner or brushing my teeth he is always at my feet. In fact, in this very picture he is sitting at my feet! Oh I just love him so much!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Have a wonderful evening!</span></div>

Very poor promoting and management! It was so unbelievably disappointing that I really don't want to get into it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">However, we had a wonderful dinner Saturday night. We went to The Olive Garden and had a couple drinks and some wonderful food and then took dessert back to our hotel. It was nice having a child free meal, a child free weekend!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Here are some photos of our set up:</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">The soaps you see there are made by my friend, C, who I do the shows with. They are wonderful for your skin and smell so good! The most recent one I have smells like chai tea, mmmm.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">We are doing a small, local show on May 12th and are planning on frequenting a couple local farmers markets this summer. Hopefully we will be able to make up for this past weekend! We are also looking into other shows, but it is hard to know where we will do well. I guess if we don't try we will never know.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Have a great day!</span><br />

Things around here have been a little crazy, that's probably an under statement! We've moved and I've been getting ready for a big craft show. So yeah, hopefully after this weekend I will get back to posting more frequently.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">If any of you are in the Chicago land area my friend and I will have a booth at the <a href="http://www.ladiesdayoutexpo.com/" target="_blank">Ladies Day Out Expo</a> at The Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, IL. It's this weekend, April 21st and 22nd, from 10-6 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. There will also be a gem and jewelry show and a home remodeling show going on at the same time, under the same roof! So come out and see me, I would love to meet you in person!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">What I've been up to lately (on top of moving!):</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Getting ready for the expo, which includes making:</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">18 drawing/note pads</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">4 comp. book covers w/ pockets and button closures</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">3 baby quilts (was shooting for 6, oh well, 1 not pictured)</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">All of that in the past two months, that's a lot for me!</span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">And a BIRTHDAY! My little man turned 4! I can not believe he is 4 already. Where has the time gone?!</span></div>

I. Am. Freezing. I'm sitting on the couch in some cozy, warm sweats and nestled under a quilt and I just can not get warm. Right now a fireplace and some hot chocolate sound heavenly!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Any who, I have finished the first block of my Ruby Bird Baby Quilt and I love it. It is just so darn cute if I do say so myself.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6857570133/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ruby Bird Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Ruby Bird Baby Quilt" height="513" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7186/6857570133_231e74bae0_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I decided to start with the February block since, well, it's February and Valentine's Day is tomorrow. It came together quite quickly and I really enjoyed the process. I can't wait to finish this quilt, it's going to be so stinking cute, I may not be able to give it away!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;"></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;"></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I am also loving this fabric! It's Ruby by Thimble Blossoms and the color pallet is just lovely. I only have the charm pack I am using for this quilt, but I want more!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">And look how great my Ruby Dresden Pouch fits into the mix! It is perfect for holding my embroidery floss, needles, thread snips and glasses.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">On another note, I pulled these fabrics for a possible mini quilt to enter into <a href="http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Jennifer's</a> <a href="http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com/p/modern-mini-challenge.html" target="_blank">Modern Mini Challenge</a>. I have an idea all drawn out and I am quite excited about it, but I'm not sure if I will have time to finish it by the dead line. I will try...I am making it either way!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Have a wonderful evening!</span><br />

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6833143277/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Birdie Stictches Test Block by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Birdie Stictches Test Block" height="510" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7145/6833143277_4689c8dddb_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">My little brother and his wife are expecting there first baby this summer and it's a girl! Ever since they found out what they are having I have been trying to decide what to do for a quilt for her. What pattern? What fabric? Well, back in December I saw <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sosarahsews/6698289713/in/photostream" target="_blank">this quilt</a> over on Flickr from <a href="http://sosarahsews.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sarah</a>. I immediately fell in love with the little birds and went searching for embroidery patterns with no luck. Just a few days ago I came across something that lead me to the <a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/" target="_blank">Little Miss Shabby</a> blog where I found the <a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/birdie-stitches/" target="_blank">Birdie Stitches BOM</a>. So I did a test block to see how doable this would be for me. It only took me two evenings to stitch this baby up so I think that is pretty good for my first time doing anything like this.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6833141355/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Birdie Stictches Test Block by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Birdie Stictches Test Block" height="512" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7026/6833141355_0f61614631_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Is</span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">n't that little birdie just so cute?! Now I have all of the patterns to make this into an adorable baby quilt. I have a Ruby charm pack for the scrappy boarders which I am going to use as sashing between the embroidered blocks with out and solid sashing and I have pink minky for the back. I am pretty excited about using minky for the back, but I am a bit concerned about the bulk it will add so I might use a flannel instead of batting. Any thoughts on that?</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6833154175/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ruby Dresden by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Ruby Dresden" height="511" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7021/6833154175_7096f0296a_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I only need 38 of the 42 charms for the quilt so with some of the extras I made this adorable Dresden plate half. I am in love with <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dontcallmebetsy/6192349907/in/faves-42217586@N08/" target="_blank">this pouch</a> and have been wanting one for myself. After lurking around the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/mouthystitches/" target="_blank">Mouthy Stitches</a> Fickr pool and being inspired/motivated I decided today was the day I would make one (well, yesterday) and here it is!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6833151177/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ruby Dresden Zippy by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Ruby Dresden Zippy" height="512" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/6833151177_985be6eb7b_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I put my Dresden half to the bottom and did my zipper a little different, but I LOVE it! I can't stop staring at it, I just think it is so adorable and it will be perfect to keep all of my floss and needles in while I am working on my Ruby Bird Baby Quilt (Birdie Stitches).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">This little gal measures approximately 9 inches by 4 inches. The exterior is Ruby and Quilters Linen and the interior is some fabric I had in my little stash from Joann's. Oh, I just love, love, love it!</span></div>

I've been wanting to make a zig-zag quilt for a while now so I decided to turn these into one. I ended up cutting them in half to double the HSTs I would have to work with and I came up with this:</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6796739795/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Zig-Zag by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Zig-Zag" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6796739795_1aa97741fd_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">It measures 28x33 inches. I haven't decided what else I will do to it, a boarder I'm sure, but I don't know how big.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">When doing the math to make my Giant Swoon block I made a stupid mistake when it came to the squares for all of the HSTs. I ended up cutting them two whole inches too big. So after sewing all of the squares together and cutting them apart I went through the bunch and cut those two inches off before I opened them up and pressed the seams open.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I should have taken a picture, but this left me with two 2 inch wide strips sewn together at an angle at one end. I was able to trim a nice little HST off the end that measured 2 inches square and the rest became the boarder for the Giant Swoon block. So now I had all of the HSTs I would need to make a mini Swoon block! I just needed to scrounge up the fabric to make the rest of the block ( I had to piece together a couple of the pieces.) I ended up with this:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6796727679/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Swoon Mini by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Swoon Mini" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7032/6796727679_380c595455_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">My first mini quilt! I'm pretty happy with it and now I have something to hang up in my sewing area!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Happy sewing!</span></div>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6763511195/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Swoon x3 by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Swoon x3" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7021/6763511195_7e4f642e36_z.jpg" width="399" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Inspired by this <a href="http://incolororder.blogspot.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt.html" target="_blank">post/quilt</a>, I started this giant swoon block back in October. I love the idea of making an entire quilt out of one block. It has just been sitting in three rows since the day I started it. With all of this <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1904864@N22/" target="_blank">Swoon-Along</a> motivation floating around I finally got my butt in gear and finished it up. I played around a bit with the size and ended making the block three times the original size. The quilt top measures 75 inches square with the 1.5 inch border.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I had planned on just using solid grey for the boarder, but a mistake with the HSTs left me with a bunch of 2 inch strips that worked out perfectly for the job. I am in the process of trying to piece the back together out of the fabric I have left over and an additional 2 yard piece of Heirloom I have on hand. It's gonna be tight.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6763512867/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Swoon x3 by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Swoon x3" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7154/6763512867_74f6be54f8_z.jpg" width="399" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I can't wait to get this one finished up. It will be all mine! It's not going anywhere. I love making quilts for others, but I really want one that I can admire and showoff whenever I want. And when I finish my other swoon quilt I will have two! Yay!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Speaking of which, I have been thinking a lot about the finished size of my regular swoon quilt and I'm a little worried it will be too long for our bed. Making 16 blocks with 2 inch sashing will finish at 106x106, a king mattress is 80x76. Plus it only needs it to hang off the end and not the top, it needs to be wider than tall, not square. So, I'm considering alternate layouts and sashing options. I saw <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dasoriginals/6743557179/in/pool-1904864@N22" target="_blank">this quilt</a> the other day in the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1904864@N22/" target="_blank">Swoon-Along Flickr pool</a>. She made the original 9 block layout and then just sashed 3 sides. I like this idea, but I kind of want the quilt to be able to stand on its own so only having 3 sides sashed kind of kills that. So I was thinking of maybe something like this:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6763515733/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Possible Swoon Layout by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Possible Swoon Layout" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7164/6763515733_8daca521bd_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Four blocks wide by three and a half blocks long. By staggering the blocks and using some half blocks it would eliminate having one row of just half blocks. It would also be able to stand alone as just a large quilt. I love the look of the drawing without sashing, but it would finish at 96x84 and I would like it to have a 12 inch drop so it needs to finish at 104x88 (and that doesn't account for shrinkage.) So I am thinking about adding 1 inch (finished) sashing between the blocks with 2 inches on the top and bottom and 4 or 5 inches on the sides. That should make it big enough. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">We will see...I like to change my mind.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Even though I was unhappy with how the quilting went, I am pretty happy with how it came out of the dryer. It's nice and crinkly and most of the quilting imperfections aren't very noticeable.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">As we speak this quilt is on it's way to California where it will wait to snuggle the newest baby in the family who will be here by the end of the week.</span></span><br />

I liked how the binding turned out on the mug rug where I hand stitched it using the ladder stitch, but I don't have the patience to do quilts that way. Up until the other day I have always tried to line up the binding front and back so it top stitched on both sides nice and pretty. I always failed miserably! It would look nice from the front, but not so great from the back with the stitching only on the binding some of the time.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6737927241/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Just Wing It Baby Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Just Wing It Baby Quilt" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7159/6737927241_05d3d7809d_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">On this last quilt I made I went with a scrappy binding mostly out of necessity (I didn't have any additional yardage) and most of my scraps were ending up at 2 and 7/8 so I just ran with it, I usually cut my binding a 2 and 1/2. I also used a larger seam allowance, 3/8 instead of 1/4. I meant to attach it to the back first and top stitch from the front, but managed to get it completely attached to the front before I even realized my mistake. Oh well, it is what it is! When I top stitched it to the back it extended past the stitch line from the front (does any of this make sense?). I stitched it right on the edge of the binding and on the front it just left a nice straight line that looked like it could have been part of the quilting. Ideally it would have been on the back, but again, oh well.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Anyway, to sum it up, I have never been happier with the binding on anything that I have done than I am with this one!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I guess winter is finally here for those of us here in the Midwest, two snow storms within a week of each other would probably say so. It's been snowing all day and it is really piling up out there. Riley has been talking nonstop about making a snow man so maybe tomorrow if it's a bit warmer than today we will tackle that project! I can't remember the last time I made a snow man.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I have my Just Wing It baby quilt basted and about halfway quilted. I have to say I am terribly disappointed with how the quilting is going. I think it as to do with how I basted it, but I am getting a lot of puckering on the top! I don't think I had the top as taught as the backing so once I started quilting the side to side lines (after already doing the top to bottom lines) there is more fabric on the top than on the back and it is folding over the perpendicular lines that have already been quilted. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I hate to say it, but I am far too lazy to go back and unpick all the the quilting I have already done. The puckers are pretty small and I think they wont be so bad after a wash and dry...I hope! I should have it in the wash tonight so I guess we will see...</span><br />

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6708847357/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Swoon Block #5 by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Swoon Block #5" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7009/6708847357_baae4f5a46_z.jpg" width="399" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">My motivation from the other day only lasted through one Swoon block before my head cold got the best of me. Since then I have managed to get all of the HST and flying geese marked and pinned for two more blocks. Once I get them sewn and trimmed up I should fly through the piecing of two more blocks.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Ever since I stared this quilt and knew I would be making it king sized I have been considering my quilting options. I would love to have it custom quilted, but I have a couple reservations: 1) Cost, it really isn't an affordable option for me and 2) I could no longer call it 100% my work. Some day I would love to send a quilt to a long arm quilter just to have a beautifully quilted quilt, but that's probably years down the road.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Since I really don't want to try to wrestle a king size quilt through my machine I have been considering the quilt as you go method. There are quite a few out there and a lot of them involve hand sewing which I really don't want to do. Then a disscusion was started in the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1904864@N22/" target="_blank">Swoon-Along Fickr group</a> and this <a href="http://www.thequiltingedge.com/search/label/Tutorial%2FQAYG%20%23%204%2FJoining%20the%20Blocks" target="_blank">great tutorial</a> was posted. Yay, a QAYG method that doesn't involve hand sewing!</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Problem solved. Now I just need to finish all the blocks...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;"></span><br /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">On another note, my mother-in-law asked me to make a quilt for her newest great niece, I've just been waiting for the fabric to arrive. I'm using the pink, purple and green colorways from MoMo's Just Wing It. I have all of the blocks done and sashed (not pictured) and the binding all ready to go. I just need to piece the boarder and attach it and I will be ready to quilt it...once I find/pick a backing fabric.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">Well, I'm off to do some sewing...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">So we finally got our first snow... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I was really hoping that by some miracle that we would make it through the whole winter with out it (of course I knew that would never happen)! We've had some pretty mild weather around these parts up until yesterday. It was 55 just two days ago and then the very next day we were in the middle of a winter storm that left us with about 6 inches of snow.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I came across these photos today (good timing) of the first time we took Riley sledding. It was last winter right after that huge blizzard that left 4 foot snow drifts all over my yard and driveway. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">These photos are of his very first time down the hill and I can't help but laugh out loud when I look at them. Look carefully at the third one, the picture caught him in mid air! He took a pretty good nose dive, but he was alright, in fact he got up laughing and couldn't wait to do it again!</span></div>

The fabric arrived in the mail around 1PM and I was throwing it in the washing machine around 10:30PM. Now its just a baby quilt, measures about 33 X 40, but still, I'm pretty impressed with myself.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: large;">I cut all of the fabric and arranged the layout of the rows.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/christineleazott/6522049199/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Colton's Quilt by Punkin Handmades, on Flickr"><img alt="Colton's Quilt" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7149/6522049199_737cd24dac_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">I chain pieced the rows and then added the sashing.</span> </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pieced the backing and basted it all together. Then, for the very first time, stippled the whole thing! I love stippling, but haven't had the guts to try it out on a quilt so I just decided to dive in and do it. I am so glad I did. I think I did pretty good for my first time!</span></div>
