Swooning

I have loved the Swoon pattern from Camile since I first laid eyes on it, I've been seriously drooling over Angela's blocks!  So of course I'm jumping in.

Fabric for Swoon Quilt

I'm going to us my Sugar and Spice and Kona Ash for the background. Here's my first block!

Swoon

I just love it!  Even though there are 61 pieces in each block I think it comes together in a decent amount of time.  The unfinished block measures 24.5 square.  I like how big it is, only needing 16 blocks for a king size quilt is awesome.  The thought of a quilt that big with this block doesn't seem so daunting!

PurpleTa Dot

The fabric for Kayce's Quilt arrived today, right on time, so hopefully tomorrow I can get the borders on and at least get it basted if not start quilting it.  I also got some Ta Dots in the same package. I love them!  I think they are so fun.  I will probably change my mind before I get to them, but I think they might make up my next pinwheel quilt.

Alrighty, I gotta run.  I'm taking my nieces and son to the movies.  We are either going to see the Smurfs movie or The Zookeeper, they haven't decided yet...

Rainbow Charm Quilt

After finishing Katie's Quilt I am feeling very motivated to sew.  It's like I'm free to do whatever I want and that is making me want to work on current projects!  It's awesome.  I'm almost finished with my Rainbow Charm Quilt top.  It may not be as fast as some other ladies in this community whip out quilts, but I am pretty darn happy that in the past couple of weeks I have made a huge dent in the quilt.

Making the pinwheels was quite time consuming, there are a lot of seems to press.  Sew, press, sew, press...but once I got started it was hard to stop!

Not the best photos...you can really tell they were taken at different times of day!

I'm am very happy with my progress and only have two more rows to sew together, then attach and then add a couple of borders and the top will be finished!  I have to wait 'til Friday when some fabric I purchased should arrive to do the boarders.

Kayce's Quilt
Like my makeshift design wall?!  I pinned my batting to the curtains!

In this photo only the first 4 rows are done, but since then I have completed all but the bottom right 2 rows.

I love the big pinwheel.  Originally I added it to make the layout work since I need 59 pinwheel blocks and only had 56.  I could have made 3 smaller blocks, but I thought one big one would be fun!  So now I had one extra block and I decided to leave out a red one since the red ones seem to stand out more to me.

When I started this quilt it was going to me mine.  After spending all of that time on Katie's quilt I wanted one that I could keep and admire and show off.  Well, I started to feel bad that I would have something to give Katie and not her sister, Kayce (even though I'm sure she figured it would be awhile before I had anything for her since it took me so long to finish Katie's).  So after going back and forth with myself I have decided to give this quilt to Kayce....so I will now be calling it Kayce's Quilt.

I was so excited to give Katie her quilt, but now I am waiting till this one is finished so I can give them to the girls at the same time.  So I have a week and a half, but plan on finishing this one up this weekend since it is killing me to wait to give Katie hers!!!

Well... I'm off the finish up the last 2 rows and square it up so it is all ready for boarders when the fabric arrives!

Summer Sampler Series

Swim, Bike, Quilt

I need another project like I need another hole in my head, but here I am thinking about starting another one!

I've been wanting to do a sampler quilt for a while now and have been considering the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along, but quite honestly I find it a bit intimidating.  That is a lot of small blocks with a lot of small piecing!  The blocks in the Summer Sampler Series finish at 12 inches.  That just seems much more doable to me.  Check out their Flickr Group and you will see the appeal.

They are already halfway through the series so I would be playing catch up, but I think that's fine.

The start of another EPP quilt: Hexagons?

I have this stack of fabric just sitting on the self waiting to be used.  I haven't been able to decide what to do with it, but this might just be it.  We'll see...

I'm making good progress on my Rainbow Charm Pinwheels so maybe once I have all of them done...and sashed...and the entire top done...I will let myself start this.  We'll see how that goes.

You can check out the Summer Sampler Series on Freshly Pieced, Swim, Bike, Quilt! and Fresh Lemons.

Hurray!

Just waiting to be used...

This is how my machine has been sitting or the past few weeks: ready, but not doing anything.  The last time I used it I put on my darning foot so it would be ready to go.  I figured this would keep me for working on anything else until I worked on Katie's Quilt and it worked.

Quilting

With my nieces arriving this weekend for a two week visit I knew I needed to get my butt in gear and get this quilt done.  So two nights ago I sat down at my machine with the quilt and vowed not to move from my seat until the quilting was finished.  Well, when you have a three year old that is pretty impossible, BUT I did finish the quilting before I went to bed!  It felt awesome!  Now I just need to make and attach the binding and finish clipping the seams so it would fray nicely in the wash (which felt never ending).

Zebra Binding

First thing yesterday morning I got started on the binding, finished that up and attached it to the quilt.  I had to take a break to watch my three month old nephew for a bit, but then back to work.  I hadn't decided if I was going to finish the binding by hand or machine, but I decided to do it by machine and I am quite happy with how it turned out!  It was awesome to see a finished quilt coming out the back of the machine!  I still had to finish clipping the seams, but I couldn't wait to get it in the wash!

Once I had it in the wash I could hardly contain my excitement!  It was done and I couldn't wait to see the results of my very first FINISHED quilt!

So with out further ado...

I LOVE the texture that was created on the back!

Katie's Quilt

Over all I am happy with how this quilt turned out.  I would prefer it without the fraying, but that is what she wanted.  I'm just thrilled that it is done and I can move on.  I have felt so guilty working on anything else while this quilt was waiting to be finished!  So now I am free to work on new projects...like my Rainbow Charm Swap Quilt!

Rainbow Charm Pinwheel

I decided on pinwheels.  I'm pretty excited about this quilt, but I must say it's a bit disappointing that two 5" squares cut up and sewn back together only come out 5.75"!  I'll get over it...

There are a few more photos of Katie's Quilt over on my Flickr if you are interested.

I'm Such A Nerd!

I'm just checking in.  I've been a bit busy lately with everything except sewing...  Maybe more on that later.

We've been looking into switching cell phone carriers to get the best deal since my husband has been going over our minutes the last couple of months and we need to bump them up or go unlimited...  So currently, instead of sewing, I am looking up apps on the Android Market and bookmarking them since I am getting my first smart phone next week!!  I'm so excited!  I'm such a nerd...
